‘Provide political reservation to Sikhs’

JAMMU, Aug 24: Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), J&K unit today demanded restoration of Statehood and democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
SAD leaders Narinder Singh Khalsa, Inderjeet Singh and leaders of various other Sikh organizations of J&K while addressing joint press conference here today welcomed the announcement of Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir and said that they firmly believe in secularism and democracy.
“We demand immediate restoration of Statehood and special status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir. We also feel that recent amendments in the Reorganisation Act of J&K has further diluted the powers of Assembly and the democratic rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” Khalsa said.
The SAD leader further said that minority Sikh community in the Jammu and Kashmir is being discriminated and neglected in the matter of our vital issues Punjabi language, political reservation to the Sikh community, justice for victims of anti-Sikh rights and many others. He during July 2021, with the initiative of senior Sikh leader Later T S Wazir a memorandum had been submitted to the visiting Delimitation Commission but after the delimitation many Sikh dominated constituencies were arbitrarily divided and Sikh vote was badly scattered.
The SAD leaders appealed to the heads of Sikh religious leaders to jointly formulate a strategy and guide the community under such crucial face. They also decided to submit a memorandum to various political parties about Sikh issues and after their written response the Sikh bodies will take next course of action.
Khalsa said during recently concluded Lok Sabha elections Sikhs of J&K had rejected communal parties and anti-J&K forces. This time also SAD appeals the Sikh community to reject such communal forces and vote for secularism and democracy Several Sikh leaders were present on the occasion.
