Restrictions are fair, just to save human lives: Chrungoo

JAMMU, Aug 21: Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, BJP State spokesperson on Kashmir Affairs in an interaction with groups of J&K youth at BJP headquarters here, today said that the historic decision taken by the Union Government to move bills, resolutions and Presidential Order in the Parliament to change the political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 was the biggest constitutional challenge of the last seven decades of history.
He said that it involved not only the Constitutional spectrum of the country but had larger dimensions of security, law and order and politics in the Jammu and Kashmir State.
Chrungoo said the Government’s decisions based on an in-depth evaluation and assessment of the situation led to the scheme of certain restrictions in the State and particularly in the Kashmir Valley.
Jammu and Kashmir has an unfortunate history of three decades of death and destruction, and in this particular backdrop, a historic corrective measure needed a historic response at the level of administration and the public at large. The restrictions, though irritating, are a fair and just price to pay to save precious human lives. The rumour mongers have so not been allowed to damage the public cause.
The separatist leadership and the so-called mainstream leadership in the Valley have always proved unequal to the task to convince people about the necessity of public order and maintenance of peace. In fact, they always allowed the situation to worsen in order to ‘make the hay while the Sun shines’. They have been miserable failure to think in terms of saving lives of the innocent people. Whenever there would be loss of human lives, they would ‘gladly’ thrive on the unfortunate incidents to make their presence felt and exploit the issue.
He said the administration this time has acted with the necessary freedom to execute its planning. Moreover, it was ensured that the restrictions did not include information blockade. In this context, it needs to be emphasized that a Media Facilitation Centre was established in the Valley at Srinagar where local, national and international media was offered the necessary information connected with the situation. It has been a huge success over the last 20 days where communication lines have been kept alive. Moreover, public communication centres were also created at the respective police stations in the Valley, he added.
