Retd Army personnel trained for mushroom cultivation

JAMMU, Nov 18: 10- day entrepreneurial training programme on “Mushroom cultivation and Spawn production” at Chatha, SKUAST-Jammu, sponsored by Tiger Division of Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna, concluded today with a valedictory function.
The training program was organized for the unemployed rural youth and Army personnel who are going to retire soon.
Major General Vijay B Nair, GOC, Tiger Division, was the chief guest of the valedictory function. He revealed that main idea behind the ‘Operation Sadbhavna’ is to bring Jawan and Aawam together so that they can understand each other. He also emphasized that now it is the duty of trainees to act upon on the learnt aspects of training and start their own enterprises. He said that failure and challenges come first and success later on. He was of the view that value addition of raw agriculture produced is the need of the hour to improve the socio-economic status of farming communities, thereby enhancing the national income
Prof J P Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-J was the guest of honour on the occasion. He emphasized that hand holding initiative started by Indian Army under Operation Sadbhavna is highly appreciable and stressed upon the trainees to learn the various aspects of agricultural and allied entrepreneurial activities from different faculties of SKUAST-Jammu in such a way that they could start their own enterprise.
He also impressed upon the golden era of Govt schemes for the benefits of the farming community. He talked about the need to form Farmer Producer Organizations so that producers can fetch remunerative prices, and at the same time consumer can get hygienic and fresh products at a reasonable price. Prof Sharma said the slogan of Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan and Jai Vigyan rightly fits to this type of collaborative training programme.
Prof D P Abrol, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture and Prof M S Bhadwal, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry threw light on various training programmes for the beneficiaries of Army sponsored training programme. Brig R K Purusty, Cdr 26 Artillery Brigade and Col Md Ali, CO, 118 Medium Regiment, Tiger Division along with their staffs also attended the function. Dr Sachin Gupta, Course Director of the mushroom cultivation course conducted proceedings of the programme.
