Retd Govt teacher knocked to death, driver arrested

RAMBAN, Feb 25: A retired Government teacher was knocked to death by a speedily driven oil tanker at main market here on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
As per police sources, a retired Government teacher identified as Abdul Rashid Sheikh, son of Mohammad Akbar Sheikh, a resident of Kunga Maligam, Thathri Pogal was moving along with road side, when a speedily driven oil tanker bearing registration number JK02BK-0923 hit him.
In the accident, the victim received serious injuries and was rushed to District Hospital Ramban from where he was later referred to Bone and Joint Hospital, Srinagar, but he died near Banihal.
The body of the deceased was handed over to family members for last rites after conducting autopsy.
However, the oil tanker driver identified as Jarnail Singh, son of Terath Singh, a resident of Gadigarh, Jammu has been registered.
A case in this regard has been registered at Ramban police station and investigation started.
