JAMMU, July 3: J&K Cement Retired Employees Welfare Association has invited the attention of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi towards the plight of hundreds of retired employees of the organization who till date have been deprived of their salaries and pensionery benefits partially from year 2012 to 2017 and fully from 2018 till date.
In their letter to Prime Minister the Association prayed for his immediate intervention to save their families from starvation and other agony suffered by them due to financial crisis faced by them for last one decade.
The Association appealed the Prime Minister that the Government of India should come to the rescue of over 500 employees of JK Cements and issue the directives to UT Government including Lt Governor and Chief Secretary to release the legitimate retirement dues of the hapless employees running from pillar to post over last one decade for justice by providing budgetary support.
The letter said that the UT Government be asked to provide budgetary support till the disinvestment process of J&K Cements Ltd is completed
which is lingering for last four years.
The letter further said that JK Cements Ltd was providing its dividends to erstwhile State as well. But unfortunately, due to wrong policies of J&K Government and poor quality of management from the year 2012 till 2020 the production in company declined. The Government instead of rejuvenation of company through corrective measures, right policies and providing one time financial support to the company for increasing its production, closed the company unfortunately during August 2019 and officially on October 2021 vide S.A.C decision of October 2021.
The letter said after the SAC decision of disinvestment, the J&K Government issued the Global tenders for disinvestment of the company and decided to finalise entire tendering process up to March 2023. In the meantime the Government adjusted all the employees of the JK Cements Ltd Corporation in other Government departments. But unfortunately, the employees who had retired from the company or were at the verge of retirement were deprived of all benefits including salaries and were ignored till date despite repeated pleas to the authorities in UT Government and JK Cements Ltd.
The letter further said that though the tenders for the disinvestment have been received over a year back but the final decision in this regard is still awaited and issue is lingering on one pretext or the other.
Maintaining that the retired employees have miserable financial position while some of the families are at the verge of starvation and some employees even died in the hope that someday they will get justice, the Association seeing only hope in you as a messiah of the poor and hapless people seek your intervention in the matter so that the retired employees can get justice.
