JAMMU, Dec 17: The monthly meeting of the Retirees Police League, district Jammu, was held today under the chairmanship of Karanjit Singh (president of the League), at their office in Gandhinagar, Jammu.
The event was graced by Shiv Kumar Sharma, DIG JKS Range, who attended on the special invitation of the retirees. Deputy SP DAR R S Kotwal, nodal officer, also participated in the meeting.
A large number of retired police officers, including Chirag Din, Ranjit Singh, SSP Mahadeep Singh Jamwal, Sarwar Chohan, Prabhdyal Sharma, SP S R Datta, Deputy SPs Bihari Lal Sharma, Kamal Sharma, Yoginder Singh, Khalil Ur Rehman, Tersem Raj, Mohd Shafi, J S Chib (senior vice president), Mohd Sadiq (vice president), Dhian Singh, V R Bali, Satpal (cashier), Raman Ratta, Parkash Dingra, Mohinder Kumar and Ashok Kumar participated in the meeting.
Several important issues were discussed, including the necessity of launching an anti-drug movement to curb the rising drug abuse among youth, which has already claimed many lives. Concerns were raised about the non-availability of medicines in Police and Government Hospitals for retired police personnel. The participants also highlighted the need for reservation in Government jobs for the children of retirees, describing it as the need of the hour.
Another key issue was the immediate reimbursement of pending Dearness Allowance (DA), which is crucial as pensioners face rising medical expenses. A demand was made to enhance the medical allowance from Rs 300 to Rs 3000 to alleviate financial burdens. It was also emphasized that all retirees should be included in new medical schemes without any discrimination. Additionally, the attendees requested that PSOs allotted by the DGP be attached to protected police personnel.
The meeting concluded with a collective commitment to work towards addressing these critical concerns and improving the welfare of retired police personnel.
