JAMMU, Aug 3: Agitated over Education Minister Naeem Akhter’s purported remark and decision on screening test of all Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers and verification of their degrees, All J&K ReT Teachers Forum has decided to lock up all the schools on August 6 against alleged harassment of ReTs.
Decision in this regard was taken during an emergency meeting of the Forum, here today, under the chairmanship of State president Vinod Sharma. The meeting was attended by all the apex body members besides district presidents.
The meet strongly condemned the purported remarks of Education Minister, who alleged said that ReTs possess fake degrees and are less qualified raising the need for their screening test. “Screening test of all the ReTs is clear cut violation of High Court judgment in which the Government was asked to screen only those ReTs who possess degrees from fake universities,” the Forum said.
“By describing all the universities, even of Jammu and Kashmir as tuk shops, the minister is harassing and defaming ReT community. He has perhaps forgotten the key role played by ReTs in opening the closed schools, raising literacy rate by increasing enrollment and minimizing dropout rates,” the Forum added.
Mr Sharma appealed all the ReTs of the State to lock up their schools and participate in the protest in their respective District Headquarters to save their dignity.
The meeting was attended by Younis Rahi, Rajesh Jamwal, Sukhdev Singh, Najam Jafari, Naresh Sharma, Manzoor Khan, Sajad Malik, Gulzar Daing, Subash Chander, Sukesh Khajuria and others.
