Srinagar, July 3: Family of the missing Bemina youth today refuted the police claims that their son has joined the militancy after he went missing during a trek to the upper reaches of Ganderbal.
Scores of members of the family of Basit Hilal assembled here and made emotional appeals to the police and the administration to trace their son.
“We are not ready to accept that he has joined militancy; he is a gold medallist, a PhD scholar, you go and ask anyone from Qamerwari to Bemina, you will not find anything adverse against him,” a relative said.
It is pertinent to mention here that after he went missing in the upper reaches during a trek to Gangbal in district Ganderbal, searches were carried out and continued for more than a week.
However, soon after that, the IGP Kashmir said that the missing person has joined HM and that he will not be arrested if the family persuades him to return home.
In reply to this, the family had said that if the police know that he has joined the militant outfit, why don’t they give them his location so that they can persuade him to return home if he has really joined the militancy.
The family said that he (Basit Hilal) has either been kidnapped or he has been picked up by some agency. “We are begging them to return Basit; he is an orphan and has got no one,” they said.
The family member said that his brother who went with the police and other people to search him is refusing to come back home. “He is saying that he will come home only with his brother and not without him,” they said.
