Returning awards politically motivated: Rahi

JAMMU, Oct 15: Terming the move of some writers, returning their Sahitya Akademi awards, as politically motivated, prominent literary figure Ved Rahi has strongly condemned intentions of these writers.
“By returning their awards, these writers are not only insulting the Akademi but also hundreds and thousands of Indian writers, who practice writing as silent Tapasya to their respective language,” he said in a statement today.
Ved Rahi, who himself is a Sahitya Akademi awardee, further alleged that these `misguided’ writers were, in fact, supporting the negative forces, which were trying to sabotage development of the country.
“The purpose of these writers seems to be politically motivated and their sole aim is to drag the Akademi into politics. I strongly condemn the intention of these writers,” he added.
Pertinent to mention that a number of writers and poets, including Ghulam Nabi Khayal of Kashmir, have announced to return  their Sahitya Akademi awards in protest against alleged intolerance and attacks on minorities in the country.
