Review policy towards Pakistan: Gupta

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Nov 18: Stressing for the total review of the policies towards Pakistan and tightening of the security measures, the former Union Minister and MLA, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta has cautioned both the Governments of the Centre as also that of the State to take note of the big increase in the number of the ceasefire violations coupled with the infiltration bids and incidents of the terrorist violence, as these are not without meaning.
Referring to the statements of Pakistan Prime Minster, Raja Prvez  Ashraf in course of his tour of Pak-held areas of the State and also those of their other leaders that they would continue their all out support for what they termed as “cause of Kashmir”, Prof. Gupta said that all these developments should be taken seriously.
Denouncing the incidents of terrorist violence resulting in loss of innocent lives and injuries to others, he recalled that militancy in late eighties had erupted in the Valley of Kashmir with similar incidents of attacks on liquor shops, which later on had assumed grave proportions.  Hence, the steps should be taken to curb the evil in time before it assumes a menacing situation.
Prof. Gupta also emphasized the need to tackle the activities of separatists and other such elements under law of the land instead of fiddling with the situations by opting for make believe polices.
He said that it was surprising that on one hand too much is being talked about confidence building measures and opening of trade routes with Pakistan but on the other, there seems no let up in their anti-India designs, especially in Jammu and Kashmir which is an integral part of the country.  But this should be kept in mind that the hostilities and friendship cannot work together. Prof. Gupta observed and said that ground realities should not lose sight.
Terming cross border a great threat to peace and tranquility, he said this should be made clear to one and all as present policies of the Government are making the Indian position ambiguous and ridiculous.
All this needed a second look by persons in authority to tell the world that Pakistan is still breeding terrorism, which should be exposed to have desired results.
