Revival of Gharana wetland

Sir,
I write to express my heartfelt appreciation for the recent initiatives taken by the Wildlife Department in rejuvenating the Gharana Wetland, as reported in your publication on November 3, 2023. This significant step towards the reclamation of this once-vibrant ecosystem is a testament to the power of collective efforts and the value of our natural sanctuaries.
The Gharana Wetland, which was on the brink of ecological disaster, has been given a new lease of life thanks to the intervention of nature enthusiasts and the High Court’s directives. The acquisition of surrounding land, water quality improvement, and conservation measures have led to a resurgence in migratory bird populations, which is truly heartening.
This remarkable endeavour not only benefits avian species but also promises economic opportunities for the local community and the potential to become a tourist attraction. It is heartening to witness the transformation of the Gharana Wetland into a ‘Gharana Eco-Spot.’
I applaud the authorities involved in this project and urge that it be accorded the highest priority. Such efforts to restore and conserve our natural sanctuaries are vital for our region’s ecological balance and tourism potential.
