Srinagar, Feb 16: The Deputy Mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), Parvaiz Qadri, today urged the Commissioner of the SMC to revoke the public notice he had issued calling for the removal of “illegal encroachments” from the Doodh Ganga Nallah from Allochi Bagh to Chattabal within seven days.
Qadri told a press conference here that the people residing on Doodh Ganga Nallah are in panic and are visiting SMC for revocation of this public notice as early as possible by the Commissioner. “I want the Commissioner of SMC to assure the residents that not a single residential colony, including slum structures, would be disturbed or affected by this project,” he said.
He said that the LG administration and chairman SSCL shall direct all the concerned agency to work in double shift and all projects shall be completed by or before April-2023 because G20 delegation from all over the world is visiting Srinagar in the month of May-2023.
“The people of Srinagar are outraged with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation that Srinagar City has been transformed into the hazardous manner in addition to the fact that SMC has no role in Srinagar Smart City,” he added.
He said that the Executive Committee’s term ended in June 2022, and the Commissioner is drafting policies and work plans without seeking the approval of the Elected Body and Executive Committee, which is a clear violation of sections 40 and 159(c) of the J&K Municipal Corporation Act-2000.
“I do not understand why the SMC Mayor has hijacked the corporation for his own purposes, or why re-elections for standing committees that have expired have not been held in over a year,” he said.
