Revoke unbundling decision, regularize DRWs: CNGEEU

JAMMU, Mar 2: The Jammu and Kashmir Central Non-Gazetted Electrical Employees Union (CNGEEU) has demanded that decision on unbundling of Power Development Department be revoked and all the Daily Rated Workers (DRWs) be regularized besides removing problem of manpower shortage in the PDD.
Addressing a press conference here today state president of the Union, Mohd Afzal Bhat said that the PDD was re-organised during 1981 and that too, up to 60 % requirements. Since then, huge expansion has been witnessed by way of raising Grid/ Receiving Stations, laying of HV Transmission but no man power was provided. More over, electricity facilities, claimed to have been provided in the entire state (100 % coverage). The staff/ linemen are under intense work pressure. Daily wagers have been trained enough but they are not being regularised. There is need to regularize them and provide adequate staff to run the systems.
Bhat further demanded that huge hydel power potential available in J&K be utilized and in lieu of Indus Water Treaty, J&K be compensated by handing over Dul Hasti, Salal and Uri Hydel power projects to J&K.
Afzal Bhat said that PDD workers are against the decision of unbundling of PDD, and this decision be reviewed by Govt. All the power projects be handed to JKPDC from NHPC. He demanded to regularize all the daily rated workers, clear all the pending PDL/ TDL cases as per DPC, reorganization of PDD, creation of maintenance/ system running staff, provision of risk allowance to workers, provide them advanced safety tools, establishment of training centres at Srinagar and Jammu for non- technical /new workers, enhancement of ex-gratia/ compensation, inclusion of PDL/TDL/ Daily wagers into SRO 43, creation of Welfare Fund for the PDD workers, strict implementation of SRO -588, SRO- 59 and SRO 149 in J&K .
The Union members including Parshotam Sharma- state general secretary and provincial president Kashmir Umar Bhat also spoke on the occasion and urged upon the Lt Governor G C Murmu to resolve the pending issues of the PDD workers and also review the Govt decision on unbundling of the department.
