JAMMU, June 21: To spread awareness regarding organ donation among people, Rajiv Gandhi College of Nursing (RGCN) Jammu in collaboration with State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) J&K organized seminar at college campus, Chak Bhalwal.
During the seminar, the students were made aware of the National Organ Transplant Program (NOTP) which is being run by SOTTO J&K in the Super-Speciality Hospital Jammu.
The information regarding Organ Donation through various processes like Brain Stem Death and other donation procedures were explained to students and faculty of the college, legal procedure involved in organ donation was also discussed in brief.
Dr Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director SOTTO J&K in his technical session informed the audience that a person could save eight lives through organ donation. He said that the Government has taken some positive steps for the same but without synergized efforts and engagement of the civil society, religious leaders and other stakeholders this noble cause cannot be implemented as per the need.He enlightened all audience with his inspirational lecture and motivated them about Organ Donation.
Dr Irfan Ahmed Lone, Transplant Coordinator, SOTTO J&K also chaired the technical session where he explained different parameters involved in organ donation.
Avinash Kumawat, Associate Professor RGCN, cleared all the myths related to human organ donation prevailing in society.
Chairman RGCN Jammu MS Katoch encouraged the staff and students for organizing such events that will benefit to students and people.
Abhimanyu Katoch, MD RGCN said that if pledging for organ donation is the need of the hour then we all should take active part in this noble cause initiated by the Government of India.
Anjana Bavouria Director RGCN was also present during the seminar.
Approximately 35 people including students, staff and management of the college pledged for organ donation by providing their consent to SOTTO.
During this programme, a poster presentation was also done by students of this college where Nikita Langeh, Tanvi Khandyal and Umer Yousuf secured 1st, 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
