Rich tribute paid to Gandhi on birth anniversary, cleanliness drives organized across J&K

JAMMU, Oct 3: Gandhi Jayanti celebrations continued today in various parts of J&K as various organizations and educational institutions paid rich tribute to Father of the Nation and organized cleanliness drives under ‘Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan’.
In a simple but impressive function held at High Court complex, Jammu on the eve of culmination of Swachhata Hi Seva campaign today, Registrar General, High Court of J&K and Ladakh, Shahzad Azeem felicitated a number of workers under the Swachhata Hi Seva Abhiyan in recognition of their dedicated services provided round the year and particularly during the campaign. Speaking on the occasion, Azeem urged other members to follow their footsteps in keeping the High Court premises neat and clean. He further said that the father of nation Mahatma Gandhi had a dream of cleaner India free from garbage and this dream shall become reality by the efforts of all the stake holders.
A similar function was organized at High Court complex, Srinagar wherein also the Swachhata Work Force was felicitated for upkeep of the High Court premises. Those who attended the function include MK Sharma (Principal Secretary to Chief Justice), Tasleem Arief (Registrar Vigilance), Rajinder Sapru (Registrar Rules), SR Gandhi (Registrar Judicial, Jammu wing), Amit Gupta (Member Secretary, JKLSA), Pravin Pandoh (Joint Registrar Judicial, Jammu wing), Abdul Bari (Joint Registrar Judicial, Srinagar wing), Aftab Ahmed Chouhan (Additional Registrar), Ajay Sharma (Joint Registrar), Sanjay Bhat (Joint Registrar) and Sanjay Kumar Verma (Deputy Registrar).
To pay tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 154th birth anniversary, a colourful programme was organized at Diwan-a-Aam by the Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K. Bharat Bhushan (Chairman, DDC Jammu) was the chief guest on the occasion while Ramesh Kumar (Divisional Commissioner, Jammu) presided over the programme and Baldev Singh Billawaria (Deputy Mayor, Jammu) was the guest of honour. On the occasion, Bharat Bhushan and Ramesh Kumar planted a tree each in the park of Dewan-e-Aam and they along with other dignitaries paid floral tributes to the portrait of Mahatma Gandhi. Beautiful cultural items were presented by the students of various schools. Dinesh Gupta (Advisor, GGF J&K) and Lt General (Retired) Rakesh Sharma were also present.
In connection with Gandhi Jayanti celebrations, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages organized a Bhajan Sandhya here at KL Saigal Hall. Prof Anupama Sharma, renowned artist of the Jammu and Kashmir, was the chief guest on the occasion. Dr Shahnawaz, Editor Cum Cultural officer, JKAACL, welcomed the guests. The program began with the Kabir’s Bhajan sung by the renowned artist Marina Jamwal. This was followed by the bhajans by Vanshika Jaral and Vishal Gupta.
NSS volunteers of SMVDU Katra organized “Ek Tareekh, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” event as part of ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ campaign in collaboration with district administration, Reasi at Panthal block in which remarkable cleanliness drive was performed at Panthal marketplace and Amrit Sarovar. Swachhta pledge was also taken by all participants before starting the cleanliness drive. Around 200 participants actively participated in this drive and collected around 200 kg of single use plastic waste. The initiative saw active participation of Assistant Commissioner Development Dr Anirudh Rai, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat Pardeep Kumar, BDO Katra Manoj Raina, BDO Panthal Mehak, among others.
The staff and students of DPS Jammu, DPS Katra and DPS Nagbani under the directive of Dr Kuwarani Ritu Singh (Founder Member Trustee/Pro-Vice Chairperson of DPS Jammu, Katra and Nagbani), came together to participate in a remarkable initiative on cleanliness at Bawe Wali Mata, Bahu Fort (Jammu) to offer a heartfelt Swachhanjali (tribute) to Mahatma Gandhi on the eve of his Jayanti. Earlier, the schools also organized a special assembly to mark the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti. Students and staff members paid floral tribute to the Mahatma and took the swacchata pledge.
AAP Jammu paid rich tribute to Mahatma Gandhi as well as former Prime Minister, late Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries at Party’ office in Jammu North. While remembering Gandhi and Shastri, the AAP leaders Ram Singh Chauhan, Kuldeep Kumar Rao, Ranjodh Singh, Gh Nabi Khan and Shankar Dass said that Mahatma Gandhi’s message of non -violence, truth and social justice is as relevant today as it was in his time.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, Government Degree College (GDC) Ramgarh organized ‘Earning While Learning’ – an Exhibition of products created and crafted by the students and establishment of Gandhian Gallery in the College. The events were organized by Prof Risha Kumari under the guidance and coordination of Prof (Dr) Geetanjali Andotra, Principal of the College. Earlier, “Fit India Swachhta Freedom Run 4.0” was also organized in which 70 students of the College participated.
NSS unit of GDC Jourian organized a series of events including a rally by the students of the college, Reel making event on the theme “Truth and Non-Violence”, Symposium, Slogan writing event, Poetry recitation and Cleanliness drive in college campus to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti. The whole programme was organized under the supervision of Dr Rimjhim Gupta (Convener Activities and Cultural Affairs Committee) and Dr Vandana Rajput (NSS Programme Officer).
GDC Purmandal concluded hits week-long Gandhi Jayanti celebrations today. During the week-long celebrations, a cocumentary on the theme ‘Truth & Non-Violence’ was screened besides organizing an intra-college declamation contest, slogan writing competition, singing competition and a mega cleanliness drive in market places of Purmandal under ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign. Today, in a ceremony, floral tribute were paid to Gandhiji by Principal Prof (Dr) Raj Shree Dhar.
