JAMMU, Sept 24: Management and staff of Maharaja Hari Singh Social Welfare Foundation, Jammu, Rajput Charitable Trust, Jammu, Maharaja Hari Singh Social and Education Foundation, Jammu, besides prominent citizens and people from all walks of life paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh on his 119th Birth Anniversary on September 23, 2014.
On this auspicious occasion, special pooja was also performed.
Speaking on the occasion, MK Ajatshatru Singh, Member Legislative Council (MLC), J&K Government and chairman of the Trust, highlighted the social reforms made by Maharaja, viz. banning of child marriage, compulsory and free education for all upto 5th standard and banning of untouchability.
Later, Ajatshatru visited Panjar and Kasuri villages of Udhampur district and distributed relief material including eatables, clothes, blankets and medicines, among the victims of recent natural disaster. A special team of doctors was also arranged for the flood victims, who examined them and provided free medicines.
Rajkumar Ranvijay Singh, member and secretary of the Trust and other workers also accompanied Ajatshatru during his visit.
Maharaja Hari Singh Vichar Manch, Jammu also celebrated 119th birthday of Maharaha ji at Hari Singh Chowk, Sainik Colony, Jammu with ‘Deep Mala’ and according to Vedic traditions. The celebration which started yesterday, concluded this morning by offering special prayer at the venue.
People from all walks of life including Major General (retd), Goverdhan Singh Jamwal, Major General (retd), Shamsher Singh Jamwal, Col Iqbal Singh Jamwal, Col Jagbir Singh Sambyal and advocate BS Jamwal, joined the celebrations and paid rich tributes to Maharaja ji.
Speaking on the occasion, Major General (retd), Goverdhan Singh Jamwal threw light on the social reforms done by Maharaja Hari Singh.
A function in this regard was also organized in Raipur-Bantlab area under the premiership of Rohit Shastri, president of Shri Kailakh Jyotish Avim Vedic Sansthan Trust.
A lot of cultural and heritage music programmess were presented by the participants.
Speaking on the occasion, Shastri demanded the State Government to declare September 23, the birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh, as a State holiday.
