JAMMU, Aug 23: Union Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju began three-day long visit of Leh district today.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that MoS Home reached Leh this morning as per the itinerary of his visit. However, he could not visit areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China in the district due to inclement weather.
Mr Rijiju, however, received briefing from the senior officers of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) about their preparedness along the LAC and the difficulties being faced by the ITBP personnel in guarding the border.
The top officers of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) also briefed the Union MoS Home about the connectivity issues of the Leh district particularly of the border areas.
Later, Deputy Commissioner Leh, Simrandeep Singh briefed the Minister about the developmental issues of the border areas, sources said.
