RAFIABAD, Aug 18: Senior vice president of the J&K People’s Conference and former Minister, Abdul Gani Vakil, strongly criticized the LG administration for the continuous increase in power tariffs while addressing party workers in Fidarpora, Chitloora , Seelu and Rawoocha, Rafiabad today.
Vakil highlighted the prolonged suffering of the people in the Valley, who have endured decades of turmoil, leaving many in poor financial condition. He expressed disappointment that instead of alleviating these hardships, the current administration has exacerbated them. “The power situation in the Kashmir Valley, particularly in Rafiabad and the Zainageer area, remains grim and unsatisfactory,” Vakil stated, emphasizing that despite the poor service, inflated bills continue to be imposed on the already struggling population.
He further pointed out that the high cost of electricity is a significant burden on both households and businesses. “When electricity tariffs are high, it not only raises the cost of living but also increases the cost of doing business, leading to higher prices for goods and services. This makes it impossible for the common man to afford basic necessities,” he said.
Vakil also expressed deep concern over the rising unemployment rate in the region, criticizing the Government for its failure to address this critical issue. He argued that the lack of job initiatives or unemployment is contributing to increased poverty, social unrest, and a potential rise in crime as people struggle to survive. Vakil demanded the implementation of a special unemployment package to support the unemployed youth of the region.
