JAMMU, Oct 1: Noted poet, writer satirist and literature Prakash Premi today delivered a lecture, second in the series of talks on the topic, “Jammu Ka Hasya – Vyangya Lekhan”, organised by Radio Kashmir Jammu.
The event highlighted the rich literary legacy of Jammu region and threw light on need to promote various genres of creative thinking and writing among youth of the region, especially in satire and humorous writing.
During course of the lecture, the expert speaker elaborated on the background and history of writing in Jammu region. Among various “rasas”, according to the speaker, humour and satire are intricately linked with “Shringar Rasa”. Literature will lose its sheen if it is bereft of humour, observed the speaker.
While deliberating on the subject, Mr Premi touched upon the major languages spoken in Jammu region and discussed various poets and writers associated with these languages whose contribution in humour and satire literature was significant. In addition to Dogri, Prakash Premi also dwelled upon the satire and humour content in other languages spoken in Jammu region.
Though the speaker expressed his satisfaction on the evolution of humorous style of writing developing among various languages spoken in Jammu region, yet, he stressed that it needed to be taken up more seriously in order to have an impact at a national level.
Earlier, Renu Raina, Programme Head, Radio Kashmir Jammu, dwelled upon the role of Radio as repository of Cultural Heritage of Jammu, since its inception.
K K Lidhoo, Prog Executive, presented vote of thanks. Ravikant Sharma, Announcer, ably handled the stage proceedings. Prominent personalities attend the jam packed event and appreciated the effort in preserving and encouraging the rich cultural and literary heritage of Jammu region.
The event was organised by Sanjeev Sharma, Prog Executive and incharge of these series of lectures being organised by Radio Kashmir Jammu. The lecture was held under special programming for AIR Stations in J&K.
