JAMMU, May 16: The Citizen’s Forum has alleged that Northern Railways has not taken any cognizance of the High Court orders and failed to take up even a single work out of 22 items for the modernization and development of the Jammu Railway Station.
In letter written to the General Manager Northern Railways B N Rajashekhar and Wishwas Choubey, the Divisional Railway Manager -NR, reminded them about meeting held on December 24, 2011 between Railway authorities and members of the Citizen’s Forum as per the directions of the J&K High Court. The members pointed out that despite lapse of more than five months no progress has been seen on any single item as discussed and agreed upon in the meeting. The minutes of the meeting have also been submitted to the High Court in this regard.
They said in view of heavy rush of Mata Vaishnodevi and Shri Amarnathji pilgrims besides tourists, no improvement of facilities has been witnessed at the station for the last several decades. There is no proper cleanliness, up-keep and necessary facilities added in view of increasing rush. Even the newspapers have highlighted the plight but Railways authorities hardly bother. The Forum again asked the Railway authorities for allowing passengers to reach up to main gate of Railway station for drop and pick up of luggage after the police has given no objection in writing to the members of the Forum. It has aggravated the difficulties of the passengers.
The Forum president R K Chadha has demanded an action taken report from the GM, Northern Railways, within fifteen days on 22 items submitted in the Court for which the decision was taken during the meeting.
