Road accidents

Sir,
Refer news item ’10 killed, 37 injured in Rajouri bus mishap’ DE Jan 3, 2020.
It is quite dismaying that there seems to end to horrible road accidents in Jammu and Kashmir. The Rajouri bus mishap in which 10 people were killed in the beginning of new year reveals that people, administration and drivers do not learn anything from past mistakes and accidents. Even after so many accidents in Doda region last year the transport system has not been streamlined in hilly areas of the Union Territory. Drivers continue to indulge in overloading, rash driving and overspeeding. Due to absence of a vibrant transport system in hilly areas, people are forced to run after vehicles already overloaded. Had there been sufficient buses available on roads coupled with proper traffic police to monitor the situation, these accidents would not taken place. After every accident there is hue and cry by every segment of society but within a short span of time everybody goes on silent mode. There is no follow-up of the measures that Governments intend to take to ensure safety of people ultimately the situation return back to square one, and the people move on.
