Road accidents

Sir,
The horrible accident in Kishtwar in which seven persons lost their lives bears testimony to the fact that road safety is no issue for the Government, and the public. People continue to be killed, and there will, probably, be no let up in it unless things improve considerably.
The road network in remote areas continues to be in shambles. No sincere effort in being made to improve the condition of roads in these areas. The roads passing through tough terrain usually remain prone to landslides and avlanches. During rains it is quite risky to ply on these roads.
To avoid accidents on these roads, it is essential that roads are maintained regularly. It will, no doubt, involve huge sums of money, but not that  much amount which is usually paid to victims as ex-gratia amount, and insurance claims.
The Government should allocate a huge sum for these roads which are considered lifeline of people living in these hilly areas.
Yours etc…
Veer Singh
