UDHAMPUR, Sept 24: The worst condition of road is the biggest hurdle in the tourism promotion in the most beautiful and picturesque areas of remote Dudu and Basantgarh Sub Divisions of district Udhampur in Jammu region.
This was the observation of the members of Tourism Cell of J&K BJP and Tourism Development Society Ramnagar, whose joint team paid an extensive visit to the area and interacted with several local people, with the motive to explore possibility of tourism promotion in the area.
Led by Ravi Bakshi, Convenor of the Cell and Ravi Kant- Chairman Tourism Development Society, the team after seeking public feed back at the ground level, was of the opinion that worst condition of road was the major hurdle in the Tourism promotion of this beautiful area. They said, as per villagers, the respective regimes during past many decades neglected this area and did not upgrade Ramnagar-Basantgarh-Dudu-Latti and ManTalai Road, with the result the tourists avoid to pay visit to this area. The major road stretch was never blacktopped since its construction during past five decades.
Despite the fact that there are beautiful spots like Samna Banj, Gandh Top, Basantgarh, Loudhra, Khaned, Shivgali, Kirchi, Dudu, Jakhed, Latti, Dhuna, Tarwug, Manju Top, Man Talai, Sudh Mahadev and many more, the people hesitate to visit along with families in view of bad condition of road. A little improvement has been witnessed on Chenani-Mantalai road but the Government needs to pay attention on road and developing tourist huts in Dudu and Basantgarh.
The village Sarpanch told that a tourist hut constructed at Basantgarh about three decades ago has turned into shambles due to total neglect. A local villager provided land free of cost with the assurance of job which was never offered to him. He also referred to the issues like old age, widows, handicapped pension, shortage of staff in hospitals and schools and lack of playgrounds for children and youth.
