KATHUA, Sept 19: Minister for Forests, Environment and Ecology, Ch Lal Singh today kick started macadamization works of 4 Km long Magloor-Bakhat road which is to be executed by PWD (R&B) Department at an estimated cost of Rs 95 lakh.
Describing connectivity as a gateway to development, the Minister said that the present dispensation is committed to providing dependable road links connecting urban and rural areas of the State.
Citing road connectivity of remote areas as priority of the Government, the Minister said that connecting villages and remote areas is key to socio-economic development of such areas. It will boost agriculture and horticulture sectors by providing better transportation and marketing avenues, he added.
The Minister emphasized on improving the quality of life and economic well-being of the people living in remote areas and exhorted upon the officers to ensure that the quality norms are strictly adhered to in all the development works and timelines are met so that there is no cost escalation and the project gets completed on time.
Several deputations from nearby villages apprised the Minister of their demands which mainly comprises of repair and construction of new lane and drains, hand pumps in far off places, augmentation of PDD infrastructure and construction of interior roads connecting the villages besides other developmental needs of their area.
The Minister assured them that all their genuine concerns will be looked into on priority and directed the concerned officials to take adequate measures to mitigate the problems of the people in a time bound manner.
