Road connectivity of remote areas government’s priority: Naeem Akhtar

JAMMU: Minister for R&B, Naeem Akhtar today inaugurated the works on improvement /upgradation of 20 km Mantalai- Dudu Road to be completed at a cost of Rs. 10 crore.

The road shall benefit 8000 souls of Bhupp, Marothi, Sarar, Latti, Jakhed, Kirchi Dudu and other religious & tourist places of the area.

Citing road connectivity of remote areas as priority of the government, the Minister said that connecting villages and remote areas is a key to socio-economic development of such areas. It will give a boost to the agriculture and horticulture sectors by providing better transportation and marketing avenues, he added.

He said that this road project will also give a fillip to tourism activities in the area as many beautiful destinations will be linked with this road stretch in addition to providing safe, smooth and hurdle free connectivity to the locals.

The Minister emphasized on improving the quality of life and economic well-being of people living in remote areas and exhorted upon the officers to ensure that the quality norms are strictly adhered to and timelines are met so that there is no cost escalation and the project is completed in time.

Earlier, the Minister inaugurated 82 metre bridge over river Tawi at Todli between village Dewal and Bant. The project has been funded by NABARD under Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) at a cost of Rs. 473.86 lakh.

The Minister also inaugurated 90 metre steel grid bridge over river Tawi constructed under NABARD at Arsia Samroli.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister appreciated the R&B department and concerned agencies for completing various projects in a time bound manner. He said that road connectivity is an important aspect for development of rural areas and the government is focusing on equal development of all regions of the state.

On being apprised of with the demands of the locals regarding construction of interior roads connecting the villages and other developmental needs of the area, the Minister assured them that all their genuine concerns will be looked into on priority and directed the concerned officials to take adequate measures to mitigate the problems of the people in a time bound manner.

MLA Udhampur, Pawan Gupta, MLA Chenani, Dina Nath Bhagat, Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Arvind Sharma, Chief Engineer PWD, Sudheer Shah, Chief Engineer PMGSY, Satpal Manhas, S.E PWD,  N. D Khwaja, SE PMGSY, R.  Gandotra, ACR, Subhash Chander Dogra, Executive Engineers and other district officers were present on the occasion.
