Traffic mess in Jammu is becoming more and more messy each day with more additions to the already crawling vehicles on narrow Jammu roads. While parking of vehicles is an inseparable part of the use and utility of having a vehicle , it was at the same time important to see that such parking posed no traffic problems . The High Court has taken a serious view of the traffic mess and directed to remove all roadside parking in Jammu province and any vehicle found illegally parked should be taken off. Not only on roads, lanes and by lanes in localities and colonies too are occupied by vehicles and it becomes difficult for driving especially for emergency type of situations like ambulances, fire fighting vehicles and other similar vehicles.
The same direction by the High Court in respect of Kashmir province having been complied with, it was high time to do it in Jammu too. It is imperative to abide by the directives of the High Court in letter and spirit but at the same time, the UT Government must develop new and spacious parking slots for vehicle owners so that they faced no harassment and inconvenience. We are told that some parking plans are under active consideration of the Government which should be developed at an early date . However, parking rates should be commensurate with timings to create space for more or back to back parking.
