Rodents found in oil used for making snacks

Srinagar, Jan 31: Rodents were today found in oil used for the preparation of street food at Dargah Hazratbal, prompting the authorities to take action.
A video, which went viral on social media, showed rodents in the oil used for street food, commonly known as ‘Monji Goel,’ sparking concerns among the public.
Soon after the video surfaced, officials from the concerned departments reached the spot and imposed a fine on the vendor.
Officials stated that they had conducted an inspection of the area and given explicit directions to the vendors to maintain hygiene.
“After learning about the video, we reached here and imposed a fine on the violator; we have also issued a warning in this regard,” officials said.
Meanwhile, police have registered a case for “an unlawful and negligent act.”
“FIR No 10/2025 registered in Police Station Nigeen under section 271 BNS for an unlawful & negligent act of spreading infection by a street food vendor in Hazratbal area,” police said.
