JAMMU, Jan 4: In a compassionate effort to restore sight and dignity, Rotary Eye Hospital Udhampur sponsored cataract surgeries for seven homeless individuals, providing them with free treatment and care.
The patients, hailing from different parts of India, were screened during an eye camp conducted recently at Shelter Home Boria in Gorkha Nagar, Bahu Fort, Jammu. They included Bimla Kumari (Puducherry), Darshana Devi (Jammu), Jalla (Jammu), Suraj Paul (Uttar Pradesh), Uttam (Bihar), Sakina (Uttar Pradesh), and Shanti Devi (Jammu).
“As we recognized these are homeless people from different states of India and have not any kind of identity proof like Aadhaar card or even the Ayushman Bharat card to avail free services of treatment. Therefore, in this need of hour, we decided to incur all their cataract surgery expenses and offer them free of cost treatment,” said Chairman of Rotary Eye Hospital, Dwarka Nath Sharma.
Sharma said all these patients were operated today free of cost at Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital, Udhampur. He said all tests, diagnostics medicines and other consumables were also provided free of cost to them. It became possible with the dedicated efforts of our doctors’ team including Dr Ajoy Kumar, Dr Sumeru Raina and Gulzar Ahmed Khan.
“For Rotary Eye & ENT Hospital, Udhampur, these patients are not just a charity cause, in fact they are all human beings- treated with respect, empathy and love at all times. Our mission is not just gifting them with sight but also independence and self-respect,” Sharma asserted.
