Sir,
Refer news item ‘Rs 1.33 cr worth rotten ration” DE Nov. 8
The wastage of food in such a manner is indeed a criminal negligence. At a time when prices of rice and essential items are rising sharply, the people who are supposed to stock ration should have been more cautious and responsible. The ration worth Rs 1.33 crore matters a lot to peeople who pay taxes. Not only that there are so many people who go to bed without a meal every night. The food wasted thus could have been consumed by people who can’t buy it from market at exorbitant prices.
The agencies involved in stocking ration in far flung areas should inspect all ration depots every six months. This will at the same time enable them to know whether people get quality ration from depots and will also help in detecting whether it is sold only on ration depots or in black market. Besides, food distribution should be monitored strictly as most of the times Ration Depot managers indulge in cheating customers by weighing less quantity.
Yours etc…..
