JAMMU, Aug 17: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, has said the Governments are elected by the people for giving good governance and not wasting the full tenure pursuing anti-people policies and then in the last moment trying to sell moon and stars.
Addressing a function to welcome eminent political activists from Rajouri Fazal Hussain Chohan, Chaudhary Sharif, Choudhary Mukhtar and Haji Karamat Hussain and senior veterinarian Dr Abdur Rashid from Trehgam Kupwara into the party fold, she said the rout in Lok Sabha elections has served National Conference a big blow and they have now suddenly realized that people who had reposed faith on them for many decades have become fully aware of its dirty tricks and deceitful politics.
“NC has unfortunately taken the people for granted over the decades because they had in the past been able to exploit their emotions through hollow slogans and also subverted the electoral system to enjoy power in spite of their misdeeds, corruption and nepotism”, said Mehbooba.
She added people of the State have made their choice clear in the general elections by giving a clear lead to PDP in a majority of segments. Ever since the elections Omar Abdullah has displayed a total desperation and exposed his inability to handle defeat with grace as he in the last six years had demonstrated that good governance was neither his priority nor ability, she said.
Mehbooba said the Omar Abdullah Government is now trying to mislead the people through fake promises and deceptive announcements.
She said NC and Congress, after having enjoyed power for five and a half years without any concern for the people and their interest, are once again engaged in shadow boxing to mislead the people.
Senior party leaders, Chaudhry Zulfikar Ali, MLA, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, candidate for Kupwara constituency and others were also present on the occasion.
