Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today insisted that National Panthers Party (NPP) was among the signatories to Working Group recommendations for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) from the State.
He said the BJP, Congress, NPP, CPM and other political parties were signatories to Working Group No. 1 for ‘Confidence Building Measures Across Segments of Society’, which had recommended revocation of AFSPA.
Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had constituted five Working Groups for J&K.
Omar said JSM MLA Ashwani Sharma was also signatory to Justice Sagheer Ahmed Committee recommendations of similar nature.
After the Chief Minister finished his reply, NPP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia said Omar has made a reference to the NPP, which was not a fact.
However, Mr Abdullah stood up from his seat with a copy of the Working Group in his hand and said NPP MLA and former Minister Yashpal Kundal was a signatory to the Working Group recommendations.
Mr Kundal didn’t contest the charge and remained silent.
Ashwani Sharma told reporters outside that he had not signed any document of Sagheer Committee recommendations.
“If the document had my signatures, they might have been fudged’’, Mr Sharma said.
