JAMMU, Nov 6: Worth over Rs 1.5 crore, the CT scan machine of 200-bedded Chest Disease (CD) Hospital, an associated hospital of Government Medical College and Hospital, Jammu, has been lying defunct for the last about two months causing much hardship to patients but administration of the hospital is sleeping over the issue.
The machine was purchased from a Mumbai based company Siemens Limited and was installed in the hospital way back in year 2012 to decrease the load on CT scan machine of Government Medical College and Hospital and provide this facility to the visiting patients in the hospital itself.
As per hospital sources, with the machine lying defunct for last about two months due to some fault erupted in it, the patients either return home without availing the service or have to wait for days together to undergo test in the lone CT scan machine of GMCH Jammu, which is already overburdened after the CT Scan Machine being run on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode at Medical College Jammu was sealed by administration of Medical College on August 31 for various charges including overcharging patients.
However, some of the patients who can afford prefer to go to private CT scan centres instead of waiting for their turn in the GMCH Jammu.
Sources said that everyone including Medical Superinte-ndent of the Hospital and Principal, GMCH Jammu, are well aware of the snag in the machine but despite this no positive step were taken by them to make the machine functional though about two months have passed since the machine went out of order.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent of CD Hospital, Dr Manoj Chalotra said, “There is no fault in the CT scan machine of the hospital. The machine is all right. It is one of the accessories of the machine called SRS Pillar which has become faulty.”
He said that this SRS Pillar is very costly, near about Rs 10.5 lakh and the machine cannot run without it so there is urgent need to replace the same. “We have taken up the issue with Principal, Medical College, Dr Zahid H Gillani, who has assured to provide funds for the replacement of this faulty accessory within few days. Hopefully the machine will be functional within a week,” he added.
