JAMMU, Dec 20: With a view to give more aesthetic look and to explore full potential of city’s main garden Bagh-e-Bahu, the Government has earmarked Rs. 10.22 crore.
The Bagh-e-Bahu is the only source of attraction for lakhs of pilgrims who arrive here for Shri Mata Vaishno Devi darshan and for locals throughout the year. In view of the heavy rush of visitors to this important garden, the Government has formulated a comprehensive plan for its expansion and up-gradation.
This was disclosed by the Minister for Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma during his visit to Bagh-e-Bahu. He also selected the site for developing an exclusive Herbal Garden at Bagh-e-Bahu, which was approved in the recent meeting of State Medicinal Plant Board.
The Herbal Garden will also prove as center of attraction for tourists as well as for students for research purpose. This would help in generating awareness amongst the general masses for the promotion of medicinal plants for commercial purpose for which the State has huge potential and market demand. The Government intends to develop medicinal plants across the State in a big way by way of involving various stakeholders in the process, he maintained.
The Minister issued instructions to the officers to immediately start work for the expansion of Bagh-e-Bahu and developing Herbal Garden as per the lay out plan drafted by the ISM Department. He issued directions for undertaking renovation of entire garden with new pathways and landscaping at some places to make the garden more beautiful. He also directed for initiating steps to redesign the existing water bodies in the park.
