Rs 10 lakh cash seized

JAMMU, Apr 6: Continuing drive against the violation of Model Code of Conduct, the Assistant Returning Officer, Gandhi Nagar, Rajesh Kumar Shavan today seized a vehicle carrying Rs 10 lakh cash.
An official spokesman said that a Maruti car bearing registration number JK02M-6140 was signaled and stopped near Panama Chowk tonight. On search of vehicle, Rs 10 lakh cash was found in the vehicle.
The ARO immediately informed the District Election Officer, A K Sahu, who informed the Income Tax officers about the seizure of the cash in violation of Model Code of Conduct.
The Income Tax officers immediately rushed to the spot and seized the cash.
The car was being driven by one Rakesh Kumar, son of Tilak Raj of Rehari Colony, who claimed himself as owner of shop in fruit market. However, he could not produce any detail of the amount being carried and the purpose of its transport.
The vehicle was intercepted by a flying squad comprising Dr Ravi Bharti, G D Gupta and police officers.
