JAMMU, Feb 6: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir today said the adoption of easy agriculture credit facility among the farmers of J&K on low interest rates through Kissan Credit Card (KCC) has helped the farming community to enhance their production besides to provide them better market linkage.
The Minister said this at high level meeting convened to review the implementation of the KCC scheme in the State.
Commissioner Secretary Agriculture Production, Dr Asgar Samoon, Director Agriculture Jammu, Ajay Khajuria, Director Sericulture, Dr Malik Farooq, AGM RBI Jammu, S. K Wattal, Additional Vice president, J&K Bank Manzoor Ahmad, Chief Manager, SBI, R.L Lochan, DGM Circle PNB, Mohammad Latief Mir and other senior officers of agriculture and banks were present in the meeting.
The Minister said that Rs 1094 cr have been disbursed among 4.50 lakh KCC holders across the State up to last December. He said that the implementation of the scheme has encouraged the farmers to introduce the latest Agri -techniques to harness the agriculture potential of the State.
The Minister directed all the stake holders to clear all the pending cases at the earliest so that maximum farming families should be covered under this ambitious scheme. He directed to provide KCC facilities to the cultivators who have no land holdings on authorization of respective Agriculture Extension Officer and Sarpanchs of the area and it was decided that all these farmers would be covered under the programme. He said that the objective for launching the scheme is to provide easy credit facility to the farmers when they need the same.
The Minister asked the bankers to adopt simple procedure for opting the scheme and its disbursement and directed them to give clear directions to branch managers that no guarantee is required to respective banks from farmers while opting for KCC.
The Minister further directed the bankers that sericulture and beekeeping activity should also be covered under KCC scheme as this is the scheme which will help the growers and motivating them to opt it as a professional activity.
