JAMMU, Mar 16: Minister for Tourism and Culture G. A. Mir today asked Mubarak Mandi Jammu Heritage Society (MMJHS) to speed up the restoration and renovation work on Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex (MMHC) and explore possibilities for opening up of restored building for public so that people would visualise the work undertaken by the society till date and suggest measures for bringing pace in execution and maintaining quality in the ongoing work.
The Minister was addressing 21st meeting of Executive Committee of MMJHS here today, convened to review action taken report on the decision of 20th meeting of Executive Committee.
Besides the meeting discussed threadbare matters related to establishment of construction division, reuse of restored erstwhile Army Headquarter and Foreign Office. Funding under 13th Finance Commission Award and Mega Tourism Project, Restoration of Wooden ceiling (Khatam Band), Central Courtyard (Diwan-e-Aam), shifting and allotment of accommodation of Toshkhana Organisation Jammu, disposal of old used material and several other future plans also came under discussion in the meeting.
Directing for taking up renovation work estimated to cost Rs. 14 crore on MMH Complex, the Minister expressed concern over their present pace of execution and hoped that the funds earmarked for the purpose will be spent judiciously by the executing agency.
He said that two projects under 13th Mega Tourism Project have already been sanctioned by the Central Government.
Earlier, Executive Director, MMJHS, Saujanya Kumar Sharma apprised the meeting in detail about the activities of MMJH society.
Commissioner Secretary, Tourism and Culture, Atal Dullu, Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Pradeep Gupta, Director, Tourism Jammu, Robin Singh Mehta, Superintending Archaeologist, Former DG, Archaeology Department, K. A. Qadri, Divisional Architect, S. L. Suri attended the meeting.
Non official members who were present in the meeting include Prof. Zahur-ud-Din, Prof. Lalit Magotra, Narinder Singh Jamwal, Zaffer Javed Ahmed Khan, Bharat Bhushan Raina and Mul Raj Abrol.
