Rs 186.98 cr released by Centre as basic grant for rural local areas: Govt

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Union Government has approved release of first instalment of funds to the tune of Rs 186.98 crore as basic grants for rural local areas of Jammu and Kashmir during 2015-16, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Syed Basharat Bukhari said today in the Legislative Council.
During the question hour, he said the Finance Department has already been approached for release of the same.
He added that the Director Rural Development Kashmir and Jammu have also been instructed accordingly since the amount has to be credited in the bank accounts of the Gram Panchayats.
The Minister said this while replying to a question by Mohammad Kursheed Alam on behalf of Minister for Rural Development in the Legislative Council.
The Minister informed the House that in respect of Urban Local bodies, thrust areas have already been identified against which the Finance Commission has approved an amount of Rs 1305.64 crore which shall be released in five years from financial year 2015-16 to 2019-20. The Minister said proposed amount of Rs 125.30 crore for current financial year is yet to be released by Government of India.
However, as and when funds are received the same shall be expended as per action plan formulated with respect to needs/requirements of the Urban Local Bodies under thrust areas projected to 14th FC.
