Srinagar, Nov 16: Kashmir Economic Alliance (KEA), an amalgam of trade bodies, today said the Rs 2000 crore for flood-hit residents and business community of Valley is ‘grossly insufficient’ and accused the centre of discrimination.
“We were told (by People’s Democratic Party) that we will revive the business in the aftermath of floods. What has been given to the people and traders affected by the floods despite waiting for 14 months?” KEA chairman Mohammad Yasin Khan told reporters here in a press conference. He said the Valley suffered losses worth one lakh crore rupees but Centre has given peanuts as flood relief.
Khan, who is also president of Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), said the business community suffered “heavy losses” due to floods. “Our 50, 000 shopkeepers suffered losses. But only Rs 800 crore have been earmarked for the business community and Rs 12000 crore for residents,” he said.
The KEA said that the “much hyped” Rs 80, 000 crore package announce by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has nothing to offer. “If the package is not reshaped, we will launch a mass agitation,” Khan added.
