KATHUA, Feb 24: Police has recovered approximate Rs 35 lakh cash from a car during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday during routine naka checking at Bhaghthali village on Jammu-Pathankot National Highway.

A police team from Police Station Kathua, led by SHO Inspector Sandeep Singh, intercepted a car bearing registration number DL4CND-7374 at Bhaghthali village while it was traveling from Kathua to Keeriyan Gandyal.

During the checking process, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene, leaving behind a bag containing Rs 35,08,800 in cash and a minor boy seated in the rear of the car.
Singh confirmed the seizure, stating that the cash has been confiscated and the minor boy detained for questioning. Meanwhile, the driver remained at large. The police have informed the Income Tax Department, and further investigation is underway to determine the purpose of transporting such a large sum of money.
First Class Magistrate Bishan Dass also confirmed the recovery and stated that police are thoroughly investigating the matter to ascertain the source and intended use of the cash.
This is the second major cash seizure from a car in the district bordering Punjab within a week. On February 18, two youth from Kashmir were taken into custody after Rs 3.36 crore was seized from a special cavity inside their car at Lakhanpur.
