JAMMU: A day after Peoples Democratic Party announced to contest on two seats in the upcoming elections to the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir, BJP today decided to field two candidates in the polls.
“A party meeting was held today at the national capital, which was attended by the BJP leadership from the State wherein it was decided to field two candidates out of four RS seats including a face from the national leadership,” party sources said.
They said that the meeting was attended by MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, national general secretaries and spokespersons Ram Madhav and Ram Lal, MP and State president Jugal Kishore Sharma and newly elected MLAs Nirmal Singh and Choudhary Lal Singh.
“The BJP high command has finally decided to announce the names of two candidates to four RS seats as PDP has already announced to contest two seats.
However, according to sources, the BJP-PDP tie is almost ‘full and final’ behind the scene and the picture is almost clear with parties deciding two contest two seats each in the RS Polls.
“BJP national leader Ram Madhav may also be one of the candidates in the J&K’s R S Polls,” they said adding that one among others including former State president Shamsher Singh Manhas, Ex-MLA Ashok Khajuria, spokespersons Farooq Khan and Sunil Sethi will be the second contestant.
PDP yesterday decided to field Nazir Ahmad Laway and Fayaz Ahmad Mir as the party candidates for the two RS seats. PDP stalwart and patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed earlier in the afternoon had said that ‘conditional’ talks with the BJP are in progress on Government formation. (AGENCIES)
