RTI portal rolled out in J&K

JAMMU, Nov 26: The Government has launched a new online platform, the RTI Portal, to streamline the process of filing and responding to Right to Information (RTI) requests.
Developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), the portal, which is accessible at https://rtionline.jk.gov.in, is aimed at improving the efficiency and transparency of the RTI process across various departments in the Union Territory.

A circular issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of the Union Territory said that this digital initiative allows citizens to submit their RTI applications, check their status, and receive responses electronically, eliminating the need to visit Government offices.
The portal also maintains a comprehensive database of RTI applications and appeals, making the process more organized and faster for the concerned authorities, the circular said.
To ensure the smooth implementation of the portal, the J&K Government has appointed Nodal Officers at the Administrative and Directorate levels across departments.
These officers, as per the circular, are responsible for on-boarding Central Public Information Officers (CPIOs) and First Appellate Authorities (FAAs) onto the portal.
The General Administration Department (GAD) has also created the user accounts for these officers, providing them with login credentials for access.
The circular said that departments with a large number of CPIOs/FAAs are also appointing Nodal Officers at the district level to further streamline the process of filing RTIs and requests.
“The GAD has requested the submission of details for these officers, including their contact information, to facilitate the operationalization of the portal in all districts,” the circular said.
The authorities have set a target for the RTI Portal to be fully operational by December 10, 2024.
In the meantime, Nodal Officers have been instructed to complete the on-boarding of CPIOs and FAAs by November 29, 2024, and ensure that login credentials are provided to all concerned personnel.
