SRINAGAR, Oct 7: A day-long workshop on the Right to Information Act was held today at Kashmir Law College, organized by the Pro Bono Club of the college in collaboration with the J&K RTI Movement.
During the event, former Chief Information Commissioner G R Sufi, serving as the chief guest, encouraged law students and faculty to utilize the law for the greater good of the public.
He emphasized that the RTI Law provides a genuine perspective on democracy by granting people the right to question their Government.
Dr. Raja Muzaffar Bhat, Chairman of the RTI Movement and the Guest of Honour, provided insights into various provisions of the RTI law.
He shared success stories and showcased case studies where individuals successfully used RTI to secure Government jobs.
Dr. Bhat stressed the importance of promptly providing information available with Public Information Officers (PIOs), ensuring that RTI applicants do not have to wait for 30 days.
GR Sufi concurred with Dr. Raja Muzaffar and noted that he had indeed issued judgments on this matter during his tenure as the head of the State Information Commission.
In addition to college students and faculty, senior members of the RTI Movement, including Advocate Badrul Dujja, Syed Farhat, and Fayaz Mir, also participated in the workshop. The workshop was skillfully moderated by Yahya Ibrahim, the Head of the Pro Bono Club at Kashmir Law College.
