JAMMU, Dec 27: The Regional Transport Office (RTO) Jammu today launched a crackdown on traffic violators, focusing on issues like overloading, overcharging, and violations of the Motor Vehicles Act.
During the drive carried out under the leadership of Pankaj Bhagotra, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, e-rickshaws operating in Jammu City and along the Jammu-Srinagar Highway were targeted.
As part of the drive, a total of 475 vehicles were checked for violations such as lack of registration certificates, overloading and speeding.
Out of 450 e-rickshaws inspected, 103 were seized, and a fine of Rs 2.3 lakh was imposed.
The RTO Jammu officials emphasized that the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) is committed to ensuring safe and responsible operation of all vehicles, including e-rickshaws.
They also warned that further strict actions would be taken against violators in future drives.
The enforcement team also educated e-rickshaw drivers on the proper use of their vehicles, reminding them that e-rickshaws are meant for last-mile connectivity and are prohibited from plying on national highways and main roads.
The team included key officials like Rehana Tabassam, ARTO (HQ); Mudasir Iqbal, ARTO (BOI-G); Bipin Singh Charak, ARTO Flying Squad, and several Motor Vehicle Inspectors (MVIs).
