JAMMU, Nov 21: Department of Paediatrics of Government Medical College Jammu and Indian Academy of Paediatrics Jammu Branch jointly organized a run in the Jammu University Campus to commemorate IAP National Healthy Life Style Day.
This day, which was celebrated by all IAP Branches throughout the country, is the brainchild of Prof Dr Rekha Harish, HoD Paediatrics GMC Jammu, who also happens to be Chairperson of the IAP National Task Force for Prevention of Childhood Obesity and Life Style Disorders.
Dr Sanjeev K Digra, Assistant Prof and Dr Sushil Sharma, Registrar Paediatrics were the Co-organisers of the event. The theme of the day was ‘Promotion of Healthy Life Style’.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Rekha Harish stressed that everybody should take at least five servings of five different coloured fruits/vegetables per day; limit screen time (Mobile, TV and computers) to less than 2 hours a day; participate in at least 1 hour of moderate to vigorous physical activity per day and say not to sugary drinks and colas.
“If these lifestyle Principles are adopted we can protect ourselves to a great extent from the premature onset and curse of rapidly increasing non-communicable diseases like Obesity, Hypertension, Dyslipidemias, Diabetes and Cardiovascular diseases”, she said.
Dr Rekha Harish proved to be as good an athlete as an academician by winning Ist award in Female category. Dr Depinder, Dr Bella Mahajan (HoD Microbiology), Dr Sunanda (HoD Anatomy) were the runners up.
Prof G S Saini won Ist prize in the senior male category while Dr Mohd Razaq, Consultant was the runners up. Dr Probjyot, Post Graduate student and Dr Sushil Sharma, Registrar Pediatrics were the other winners of junior male group.
