Rural electrification

The Prime Minister has issued instructions to Power Ministry to ensure that electricity is provided to 200 villages of the country every week. This has to be made possible by closely interacting with the State Power Ministries. The Prime Minister has desired that for electrification of the balance villages, the Power Ministry must follow up with state implementing agencies to ensure timely sanctions, procurement, installations and commissioning activities. Notably, the Centre has launched the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojna (DDUGJY) under which over 5, 000 villages have been electrified so far. Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of the last year’s Independence Day, the Prime Minister had promised to bring electricity to 18,452 villages within 1,000 days meaning by May 1, 2018. The Centre has fixed a target of electrifying 7,000 villages by March-end.
Achievement made so far in this sector is appreciable and with the target set, one hopes that the promise made by the Prime Minister will be achieved at the end of the day. Once all villages in the country are electrified, we can raise our head in pride and boast on this remarkable achievement.
