Rural schools sans electricity

Sir,
Refer news item ‘over 70 percent rural areas schools in J&K lack electricity’ DE July 4.
It is quite disappointing to note that 70 percent Government schools in rural areas of the State do not have the provision of electricity which is quite important to run educational institutions. One can very well imagine the plight of students reading in institutions without electricity during scorching summers. It remains quite humid and hot in classrooms and teaching learning process becomes quite taxing during the period. Besides, one can’t operate smart classes in such conditions. At a time when private schools lure students with latest technology driven tools and computer classes, it will remain a distant dream for students reading in Government schools located in rural areas. Leave aside electricity, some schools do not have even the provision of drinking water and toilets. Students are  forced to bring water bottles either from home or made to drink contaminated water of streams, wells etc.
It will take a pretty long time for the Government schools to have all facilities besides quality education.
Yours etc…
