NEW DELHI: Cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar turned 46 on Wednesday.
Birthday wishes started pouring in from every corner of the world. Former India explosive opener Virender Sehwag took to twitter to extend wishes to his former teammate Tendulkar.
“With the Master, the Rise is Faster 46, as much as it represents the years you have blessed this planet, for me 4 6 is more about how the scorecard read at beginning of the over when you batted. May you continue to manifest your strength in innumerable ways HappyBirthdaySachin,” Sehwag tweeted.
Former teammates VVS Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammad Kaif also wished him on the Microblogging site.
“Happy Birthday to a very special cricketer and human being who gave many memorable moments to us and cricket lovers around the world. He was and continues to be a hero and an inspiration @sachin_rt. HappyBirthdaySachin,” Laxman said in his tweet.
”Happy birthday paji.A man I know who is a better human being than a cricketer.. PAJI WE LOVE YOU @sachin_rtHappyBirthdaySachin,” the off-spinner tweeted.
Kaif termed Tendulkar as inspiration.
“Many more happy returns of the day to the little boy who stole a billion hearts with his resolve and genius , now a man who continues to inspire , @sachin_rt Paaji.HappyBirthdaySachin,” Kaif tweeted.
Right-handed batsman Ajinkya Rahane revealed the valuable advice Tendulkar gave him.
“Your attitude is what takes you forward in life’. I shall never forget the valuable advices that you shared with me. Wish you a very happy birthday, @sachin_rt Sir,” Rahane tweeted.
Sachin, who is regarded as the ultimate god of cricket in the sports’ fraternity, made his international debut at the age of 16 in 1989, against arch-rivals Pakistan in Pakistan. He made his last international appearance in 2013 against West Indies at his home ground (Wankhede Stadium), it was his 200th Test Match.
He had scored 15,921 runs in Test and 18,426 runs in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in 463 matches. The former India captain also holds the record for highest number of centuries in both Tests (51) and ODIs (49) and he is the only man to score 100 centuries in international cricket.
Tendulkar was the part of the Indian team which won the 2011 Cricket World Cup, it was his sixth and the last World Cup appearance.
In 2003, Sachin helped India to reach the Word Cup final after 20 years. He scored 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup in 11 innings at an average of 61.18, which included 6 fifties and a hundred. This was the highest run tally by any batsman in a World Cup. He was named Man of the Tournament for his memorable performance.
In 2010, Tendulkar’s name was among the 100 Most Influential People in the World in Time Magazine. In 2014, he was conferred with the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna by then president Pranab Mukherjee, becoming the first and the only sportsperson to receive the award in the country.
Tendulkar is also the recipient of Arjuna award (1994), a Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award (1997), Padma Shri (1999) and Padma Vibhushan award (2008).
At present, the legendary cricketer is associated with the Indian Premier League franchise Mumbai Indians as the team icon.
