JAMMU, Nov 13: The J&K unit of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) has strongly condemned the arrest of recently nominated Jathedars and various political Sikh leaders on the behest of Badals and warned of serious repercussions.
Addressing a joint press conference here, National vice president of SAD (A) J S Mangal, general secretary Bhai Gurdev Singh and Bhai Ram Singh- member National Executive of the organization said that Punjab Chief Minister Paraksh Singh Badal’s family has been remote controlled by the people at RSS headquarters at Nagpur. They are working against the Sikh Panth and damaging the interests of the Sikhs.
Referring to the issue of holding of `Sarbat Khalsa’ and direct interference of Badal Govt, they pointed out that it speaks of tyrannical mindset of Badals and is reminder of pre-Independence era. They said the mid-night arrests of some Jathedars and selective Sikh leaders by breaking locks of houses is clear violation of Supreme Court orders. In `Sarbat Khalsa’ (grand meet) held at Punjab on November 10, more than 5 lakh Sikhs all over the world participated. All the resolutions passed in the Sarbat Khalsa were unanimous and the erstwhile Jathedars headed by Jathedar Gurbachan Singh stand divested of the positions held by them.
Unfortunately, Sri Akal Takhat Sahib has practically become the extension counter of Badal family and the Nagpur headquarters of RSS. Despite the decisions of the Sarbat Khalsa, how Singh Sahib Puran Singh, then Jathedar of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib and Singh Sahib Joginder Singh Vedanti were unceremoniously removed by the SGPC for the sake of maintaining supremacy of Badals in Sikh religious affairs. They alleged that Badals turned blind eye towards hunger strike of Bapu Surat Singh, who is fighting a lonely battle for the release of those Sikhs who have completed their jail term and are still languishing in different jails. They warned `Badals’ to desist from oppressive measures unleashed against Sikhs and release all the persons arrested and accept the decisions taken in Sarbat Khalsa to maintain supremacy of the Khalsa Panth.
