Sadhotra for introducing housing, pension schemes

SRINAGAR, May 28:  Stressing for organizing awareness camps to sensitize people about the schemes being implemented by J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (B&OCWB) in the State, the Minister for Planning, Labour and Employment, Ajay Sadhotra has said that welfare of the labour class should be priority of the Board.
The Minister was chairing the meeting of the Board which was attended by Secretary, Social Welfare, Labour Commissioner, Chief Engineer, R&B, Kashmir, CEO, J&KB&OCWB, besides senior officers of several departments.
The Minister said that Government’s resolve is to ensure the welfare of downtrodden section of the society and asked Board authority to come up with new schemes like housing and pension. He said apart from extending insurance schemes to the target group, the need is to initiate for skill development of the construction workers, besides their children as approved under the scheme.
While giving details of the achievements, the CEO informed the meeting that Board has collected Rs. 96.82 crore as cess from the workers during last fiscal, while Rs 45.11 crore stands disbursed among the beneficiaries during this period. The Board has collected Rs. 10 crore as cess so far against the target of Rs. 85 crore fixed for current financial year, he added. 4500 medical claims have also been settled during last fiscal,
The meeting also the status of previous decisions and the new proposals framed to make the functioning of the Board more vibrant and effective.
