JAMMU, July 24: Strongly condemning the remarks of the Governor Satya Pal Malik to kill the corrupt, Ajay Sadhotra, former Minister and senior leader of National Conference said it is unfortunate that such words have come from the Constitutional Head of the State.
In a statement issued here today, Sadhotra lashed out at Governor for claiming that his remarks asking militants to kill the corrupt were due to his frustration. “Frustration is not only shocking but also a sad commentary on his style of function. Our country is the largest democracy in the world, such utterances are never acceptable in democratic system,” he added.
The former Minister said this type of frustration is reflective of his own failure in running the administration and causing huge frustration and alienation among the common people with the Government.
Sadhotra asked Governor that his remarks urging the militants to kill the perceived corrupt politicians and bureaucrats amounts to confession that his own administration has failed to plug loopholes in the system and using the armed militants to do the dirty job. “As Constitutional head of the State, he should have kept his frustration with himself instead of courting dangerous means of anarchy in the State,” he added.
The NC leader also strongly condemned Governor’s remarks against former Chief Minister and vice president of National Conference, Omar Abdullah. Stating that Omar is a leader of repute in the country and outside and is future hope for the people of Jammu & Kashmir, Sadhotra demanded that Governor should publicly apologise from Omar Abdullah for his attempt to malign his (Omar’s) glorious reputation.
Sadhotra said NC has always fought against corruption but not by such means, only under the law of land. The Former Minister said he has great regards and respect for the highest Constitutional office of the Governor but person sitting on it also needs to maintain dignity and sanctity of this highest office. Erosion of sanctity of highest office cannot be tolerated, he asserted.
